IBM DB2 Runtime Client

Hi All,

Can application IBM DB2 Runtime Client 7.1.0(INSTALLDIR=C:\PF\SQLLIB\BIN) and IBM DB2 Runtime Client 8.1.7(INSTALLDIR=C:\PF\IBM\SQLLIB_02\BIN) co-exist on same machine?

When I was try to install verstion 8.x after verstion 7.x, it was copied all the data on system but upgrade the main db2.exe and some more files.

Cheers,

You could probably get the apps installed into separate folders (by futzing with AppSearch (if the installer does that) and/or the Upgrade table. However, knowing what I do about IBM's products, I would strongly advise against trying to run the two products side-by-side. You'll find all kinds of nonsense, not the least of which is their undying devotion to the PATH statement which each will fill, probably to - and exceeding - capacity. Add to that the mutually-exclusive registration of DLLs in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32 and you have a recipe for disaster.

If you need both products - and the reasons why anyone would escape me, given that the v8 client will happily talk to any previous version's hosts - consider using App-V (not trivial or cheap if you're not on Software Assurance) or running each in a VM/VPC on the host machine.

Thanks Ian for replying fast.

Don't know why my user wants both the version of application at the same time on same machine.

Apart from this, I have one question in mind.....

Why the db2.exe file gets automatically upgraded (I'm not using upgrade table)?

Why the db2.exe file gets automatically upgradedI couldn't say without looking at the MSI. At a guess...unlikely, but could a Custom Action be responsible? I don't recall anything of note when I did the v9 client...

That's another thing: why v7 or v8 when v9 is available and, like v8, able to talk to older DB2 instances?

Hi All,

I think this should be work in that case

To install a second copy (Differnt version of same product) use command line: setup /v" TRANSFORMS=:InstanceId1.mst MSINEWINSTANCE=1 /qn RSP_FILE_PATH=[Full path to the response file]"
