Java patching

Hello ninjas

Could somoene help me figure out why java patch is not being detected as missing on my system. I have installed java6 on my test system and created a patch label for java
ig8Aq0.png
It picked up latest java patch when i test the label but when i scan my test machines it never detects it as missing.

Exploring the patch i see the operating systems are listed as win7 and win7x64. It doesn't list sp1's while it seems Kace does differentiate between sp1's and plain win7. Could that be the reason its not detected as missing on my win7x64 sp1 test machine?

Is there a way to set the patches so they don't install on machines that dont have an older version already? Java isnt a big deal on desktops as most will need it. My bigger concern is chrome.

Thanks for your help.

  • Does your patch subscription settings include Java patches? You need to be subscribed to patches and then they need to be downloaded in order to detect against them. - JasonEgg 6 years ago
    • yes it does. The patch shows up as downloaded and active and has been detected on one random machine I scanned hwne i first deployed kace few months back. - aemalas 6 years ago
  • You said you have Java 6 installed on the system. I wonder if Java patches will only detect for their own major version? Maybe test what happens if you install a non-current version of Java 7 or 8? - JasonEgg 6 years ago
    • Thats actually a good point. Let me try that. Oracle made getting old versions of java difficult :( - aemalas 6 years ago
