When was the agentless feature added to the SMA?  Version? Any information would be helpful.

Thanks.

But actually was not really made public until v8 around 2011 ish if I remember?

Comments:
  • v8 came out: November 2017, and there some additional agentless features were added which need a full agent license but the agentless (depending on what was always different. SNMP as we know it today came with 6.3, the SNMP before was different and less useful, SSH was already avaiable in 5.0 even if it did not get that much info since not so detailed, etc) was there likely from the beginning. - Nico_K 1 month ago

We have a grandfathered License that included "no node Limit"  Quest is saying the Agentless, network etc are not included in the SKU below and I would need to procure additional licenses.  I am not sure I buy that song and dance.  Anyone in similar situations?  based on this thread the agentless was clearly an option, in contrast to the below highlighted.

Response from Quest:

The Unlimited licensecan only be applied to devices with an agent installed. When we offered theUnlimited agent-based license, agentless was not a feature; therefore, it wasnot included in the license

Comments:
  • this is not (fully) correct.
Agentless was different at this time.
You had no agentless licenses (=only systems with an agent were calculated against the node limit) but with 6.3 this was changed since many agentless features got so much info that no difference against agent managed devices were seen anymore (aside of the effect that you cannot run scripts on agentless nodes)

    But regarding your questions:
You should ask license@quest.com directly for your needs here. - Nico_K 1 month ago

What does the summary of your license say in the System portal?
Settings -> Appliance Updates
Hit the blue question mark next to License Information

I believe "assets" in this area is Agentless devices. We were told we were grandfathered in to have unlimited agentless but when they migrated to this new setup, the license never transferred over properly and we were limited to 20. I contacted support about it and they were not helpful. We decided not to pursue it anymore since it was not something we were using much anyway.

Same deal limited to 20.  Vendor has not been very helpful, except sending quotes for new agentless quantities.

License Expiration: Never
License Usage/Capacity:
Managed Computers: XXX/Unlimited, Monitored Servers: 0/5, Chromebooks & Network Devices: 7/20, Co-managed Devices: 0

Licensing of asset packs arrived when the agentless functionality was started, at the same time sub types of device assets also appeared, the idea is you use agentless and snmp to discover then map into sub device asset types.

Prior to that agentless was not talked about, so I doubt you will be entitled.

If you get value from agentless discovery and inventory, buy the asset pack, the licenses are much cheaper than the main agent.
