T5600 Preinstallation Task Failed

I have a Dell Precision T5600 hundred that i'm getting the error:  preinstallation failed, it doesn see the hard drive.

I downloaded the  drivers for that model in k2000 and have a brand new KBe , which i have tested and it worked with a T3600.

Any ideias?

Bios version is A07

Is the PERC driver in \\k2000\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\dell-winpe-a06\storage ??  We ran into issues with the T3600 with this driver, I think I may have had to add it myself.

Under Driver feed package detail (for t5600) included drivers list , from the k2000 (web link) i see the following:

Device: Windows 7 64 bit Driver for PERC H310//H710P Controllers
Version: 5.1.119.64
Vendor:
Category: Sas raid
Description: 1DV4H_A00-00 A00

  • There is a newer driver than that available on Dell's website released 5/3/13. You could try manually replacing the files in the path I mention above and rebuild your KBE. - nheyne 11 years ago

When i try to manually go to the path \k2000\peinst\drivers\  i get a access denied and a prompt to login ( what account is this)

  • This would be the samba share password, and the user is admin. You will need to set that in Settings > General if you haven't already. And you will need to rebuild your KBE I believe after you do that. - nheyne 11 years ago
  • also don't forget to recache the drivers afterwards - Nico_K 11 years ago

boot into the kace boot env and go to recovery and open a command window.

you can run diskpart there and see if you can see your drive

I got to the \\kdeploy\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\dell-winpe-a08\storage     there are two folder whit weird names where do i put the the perc driver folder

Comments:
  • You'll have to see which one has the perc driver, according to the driver info that you showed above the folder should be named "1DV4H". - nheyne 11 years ago

Thanks for all the replies but it doesnt get easier. I did all of that and i still get no drive selected.

i tried diskpart list disks and tells me no disk, no volume , no partition

i went to the bios and it shows a SAS-0 as the drive

Any ideias about that

  • go download driverview to a USB stick.
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html

put the stick in the computer with the KBE loaded, give it about 15 seconds to mount it
Should mount the stick as drive e: or f:
I just open a command window in recovery, put drive letters till I hit it and then run the driverview, exe and see if the correct perc driver is loaded.

Have the perc drivers on this stick and use drvload to load them if they do not show. Drvload is in system32 type drvload /? for help.

If this works you need to fix your KBE if you plan on doing other machines with this controller. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • I tried that and it show the USB as the C drive .
Only c and D (DVD) - vfernandes 11 years ago
    • When you see that it is most likely the drivers are not loading. It did not allocate c or d to the hdd or cd/dvd. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
      • Actually i followed this again and i notice that driverview does show the perc driver listed. So the driver is there but doesn't recognize main hard drive. - vfernandes 11 years ago
  • did you configure the drive in the controller setup that goes by during boot? - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago

Just to add i created a new KBE in january. Since i updated the drivers in  \\kdeploy\peinst\drivers\kbe_windows_x64\dell-winpe-a08\storage   Do i have to create a new KBE  or it should work ?

  • you need to create new one to add drivers - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
  • And as Nico said, you need to recache your drivers prior. - nheyne 11 years ago

I did the recache but no luck. It's weird that diskpart shows only one volume 0 which is th DVD drive.

I guess i'll go  with rebuilding KBE.

  • Recache on its own won't update the KBE, it has to be rebuilt. - nheyne 11 years ago

Hi i tried all of the above  and i'm still getting the same error. placed the perk drives in the kdeploy directory manually , recached , created a new KBE. After creating the new KBE i went to the drivers section and downloaded all the drivers that's in the new KBE and intriguing thing is that i can see the inf for the perk driver in the  notepad report.
