Track Computer Usage

I know I am able to meter certain applications. Is there a report or some other way to generate actual computer usage time. What I would like to see is a report per device that would track actual uptime. This would be mainly for laptops that have very expensive software on them. When they're not being used they're usually put away to sleep.  Knowing how much usage they actually get per week would help my department understand the cost / benefit ratios of them needing those very costly resources.

If there's some program that always runs when a computer is on and logged in you could track the use of that program as an analog to actual 'use time'

Ehhhhh, what your asking is not something you can get for free normally.

Check out this product from MS, its free and it *might* do usage tracking. I think it can track startups(?) but not sure on usage hours.
