Upgrading existing KACE deployment then physically moving equipment to new location for multiple KACE nodes -- looking for tips/suggestions

Backstory: We currently have a K1000 & K2000 in our infrastructure, we have a hardware refresh waiting to be deployed (new KACE servers sitting is boxes). I need to upgrade/migrate the current K1/2000 to the new hardware, then once that is working I need to re-purpose the old hardware to our remote location in a different state.

This was dropped into my lap, I've got zero KACE admin experience, just used it for imaging and scripted deployments. I have the manuals and will read them but I'm hoping someone has gone down this path before and can hopefully save me some time and effort if I'm heading down the wrong path.

What I don't know is this. We have 2 locations one in Des Moines one in Denver. Will I need both a K1000 & K2000 in both locations so I can image and deploy software? There should be no issue re-purposing the existing servers in the other location?

That is a very basic overview but I don't know what to even look for so I'm hoping that someone has some experience in this and can lend a hand.

Thanks!

if you are not too big you can have one of each at HQ and then use RSA's on a vm at the other sites

Comments:
  • What is 'not too big'? Main location is 500, remote 150 and slated to gain another 80 seats by end of year.

    RSA = Remote Site Appliance?

    So the RSA is the preferred method as opposed to re-using our 'old' K1/2000 boxes then? Is that due to having multiple KACE appliances on the same network? - rcook55 8 years ago
    • I have 3k machines on 1 each k1 and k2 with RSA's, We are a college (5 sites), we reimage at least once a year and a lot of machines twice a year in the classrooms. our kboxs support our infrastructure just fine.
      Each kbox would need a license also. vs RSA uses the license of the parent - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
      • we run our rsa's on windows virtual servers or vmware - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
      • also the k1 is a replication share vs an vm appliance that the machines get their files from - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
