Disabling Java Auto Update - v6 Update 31 (32 and 64 bit)

If you are looking to turn off Java Auto updater, you can modify the registry keys to shut it off. THIS WILL Turn Off the Updates Tab in Java Console

For Windows 7 64 bit machines:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Update\Policy]

"EnableJavaUpdate"=dword:00000000

For Windows 7 32 bit machines:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Update\Policy]

"EnableJavaUpdate"=dword:00000000

  • Is there a way to deploy java in the first place without the autoupdate on? I hate autoupdate, they need to start making packages for enterprises who do patch management themselves with another product. - shigbee 12 years ago
  • When depoloying, use arguments AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 JAVAUPDATE=0 JU=0 - Erroneus 12 years ago
    • I will need to update our deployment with that. Thanks! - ohiosoundguy 12 years ago
  • We have chossen to mirror these registry settings using Group Policy Preferences. If a customer updates the Java client before our corporate deployment finishes these settings will not stick. GPP gives us a fighting chance against the giant that is java AutoUpdater. - sepfeif 12 years ago
