New version automatically creates hard drive backups without ever leaving Windows®, saves to virtually any external media, restores entire system or individual files

OREM, Utah – June 9, 2003 – PowerQuest® Corporation, a provider of storage lifecycle automation to businesses worldwide, announces the release of Drive Image® 7.0, the latest version of its award-winning backup imaging software that protects hard drive data, applications and operating systems from computer disasters.

With an easy-to-use, intuitive Windows interface, Drive Image 7.0 uses “hot imaging” to create a backup image of the hard drive without ever leaving Windows, even when imaging system partitions. While many other backup programs require users to access DOS to create and restore images, Drive Image 7.0 users can schedule backups to automatically run in the background while continuing to work in Windows.

Every computer is vulnerable to disasters caused by viruses, faulty software, accidental deletion of important files or hard disk failure. Without proper backup, users risk losing priceless digital data, not to mention the extensive time invested in customizing operating system and application settings and preferences. Drive Image 7.0 provides a complete backup solution, saving users hours of frustration and providing peace of mind when inevitable failures happen.

Drive Image 7.0 can save entire hard drives or partitions onto virtually any CD-R, CD-R/W, DVD-R, DVD-R/W, DVD+R or DVD+R/W drive, ZIP® or Jaz® media, as well as portable hard drives. The new version also provides support for USB, USB2 and FireWire storage devices, offering greater flexibility in saving and restoring backup images. In addition, improved native network support lets users save backup images to and restore from a network drive, giving users a way to free up valuable hard drive space on local machines.

“Drive Image 7.0 worked without a hitch,” says Dan Matko, a Drive Image 7.0 beta tester from Ottawa, Canada. “The fact that I can save a backup image to so many different storage devices is really important to me, and the scheduling capability is definitely a bonus.”

Drive Image 7.0 uses PowerQuest’s Virtual Volume Imaging (V2i™) technology to mount backup images as virtual hard drives with their own drive letters, making it easy for users to restore individual files and folders with familiar file browsers like Windows Explorer and My Computer. Drive Image 7.0 also includes Backup Image Browser™ for finding and restoring files, verifying image integrity, setting or changing image passwords and dividing image files into smaller pieces for storage on removable media.

Like the previous version, Drive Image 7.0 can schedule regular backups, eliminating the need to manually initiate the imaging process. Drive Image preserves usersÂ’ system preferences, eliminating the need to reconfigure them when recovering from a computer disaster. Users save hours of reinstallation work because Drive Image duplicates the entire hard drive, including data, applications and operating systems, into a backup image that can be used to return the system to exactly the way it was before the disaster.

System Requirements

Drive Image 7.0 runs on Windows XP Home and Professional, as well as Windows 2000 Professional Desktop Version. System requirements include 45 MB of hard drive space, 256 MB of RAM, with a Pentium®-compatible processor and the Microsoft .NET™ Framework.* Drive Image 2002 is included in the box for users of Windows 95c, 98, ME and NT 4.0 Workstation.

Drive Image 7.0 will be available in English, French, German and Japanese in June for an MSRP of $69.95.** Users can purchase Drive Image 7.0 via independent retailers or download the product from PowerQuest’s Web site at www.powerquest.com.
