Active Directory and laptops

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to figure out a way to deal with mobile laptops and our domain. Currently laptops that don't have an active internet connection take forever to log into (it's trying to get to fileshares, printer and my documents). Is there a policy or strategy to deal with computers that make not it quicker or easy for the user to login without having to try and connect to network resources. I've already given the machine a cached credential and a vpn but I'm trying to figure out a way to make our ad setup smooth. Our current laptop environment is a mixed of windows xp sp3 pro, windows 7 pro and server 2008.

Cheers,

M
