ADK for 8.1

Should I expect that running adksetup.exe will take a very long time? I tried it yesterday and gave up after maybe an hour. I am trying it now and it is stuck at Acquiring...PE?

  • I didn't see an option to download the entire source. I did remove all of the default items in the list except Deployment and PE and it seems to be making a little progress
    • I just now found the way to download the full package. Nevermind
  • I just cancelled the installation because there has been no more progess in the last 30 minutes. Now it says' Install was not successfully cancelled'
    • I did find a way to successfully uninstall it. At the cmd prompt, adksetup.exe /uninstall
  • Do I have to install this on a Windows 8.1 computer?

Should not take that long. Even to a VM it only took a few minutes for me. However, I would always recommend choosing the option to download the entire source locally before trying to install. I have not had much luck with "direct from the web" installs.

  • I did not see an option to download the entire source
    • Time to polish the spectacles, but to make it simpler - here is the link giving instructions:
Googling 'ADK 8.1 download for offline installation' will also get you there,
      • I actually never was able to install it on my computer. I ended up installing it on my laptop at home.

Thanks for taking time to respond
