Administrative rights

Everytime I try to run Repackager, I get the message "You do not have administrative rights Repackager may not work properly still want to continue." What adminstrative rights are they talking about. I am have local admin rights. If I go ahead and click and yes and build a job...sure enough it does not work. Suggestions?

Local admin is obviously enough-- I'm guessing you are running in Vista? Vista runs as a normal user even when you are logged on as an admin. The final 1.0 release will prompt automatically, but for now right-click on the AppDeploy Repackager (the executable or shortcut) and choose "Run as administrator". You should see a UAC prompt, answer yes and it should work as expected.

Let us know if you are still having issues and provide any details you can which may help to reproduce what you are seeing.

Thanks,
Bob

Can you view the "security" log in Event Viewer (eventvwr.exe)? This is the simple check I use to ensure I have admin permissions.

You said it does not work, what is the result you are seeing?

Thanks,
Bob

In trying to replicate this, the only way we can see this is to remove your account from the "Administrators" group. Check Control Panel -> administrative tools -> computer management -> local user and group -> group -> administrator and make sure the account you are running with is present.

I am Enterprise pc support and have administrative rights on every machine in the corporation, so that is not the issue and what I mean is no repackaging job that I create will run at all even when I go ahead and answer yes to the adminstrative rights question at the beginning.

I realize if you are an enterprise admin (and presumably a member of a domain group that is a member of local administrators), but as a troubleshooting measure, can you please add your account explicitly to the "Administrators" group on the local machine?

Can you also be more explicit in what is not working. By "no repackaging job that I create will run" I assume you are able to build an MSI and are having trouble running that MSI? If so, what is the error reported by the MSI? If you don't see one popping up, there should at least be a record in the application event log (eventvwr.exe). Finally, what application is it that you are trying to repackage (perhaps we can replicate if we try the same)?

Thanks,
Bob

I am having exactly the same issue. This is the first time I have come across softwart not running even though I am the systems admin. I can do anything to the systems but cannot run this software, if I ignore the message the MSI end up failing due to a permissions error.

Have you tried explicitly adding your account to the Administrators group for troubleshooting purposes? Can you please post exactly what error you see?

I really want to get this worked out but cannot replicate the problem!

Thanks,
Bob

There still has not been any luck reproducing this, but we've made an attempt to change the logic in how it detects if you are running as an administrator. This is a test copy of the application I'd like you guys to try. Please let me know as soon as possible if this installation of the AppDeploy Repackager functions any better for you.

The fact that even when the notification is dismissed there are permission issues surfacing is still a concern. If it were simply a matter of determining what we thought your permission level to be, ignoring the warning should allow you to use the application as desired. Perhaps even as administrator, there are areas of the file and registry system being blocked to your account? It is not "normal" but permissions can be changed so perhaps your system is configured as such?

Please let me know if this test build functions any differently on your system as soon as you can.

Thanks!
Bob

I was getting the same message but after installing the "test" version, the message is gone.

Sounds like a step in the right direction. Does the application function as expected (were you able to create an MSI)?
Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,
so that the conversation will remain readable.
