All managed installations are no longer working - K1000

We've had some managed installations set up for over a year now, and they worked flawlessly for a long time. Suddenly, last week none of them work. It seems as though they don't even make it to the machine as nothing is downloaded to the target machine and no debug log is there, even with debug enabled.

Any suggestions on where to begin? Is there a location where I can see why it failed? Scripting allows me to see a reason why, but it doesn't seem to be an option for managed installs?

Any help is appreciated

  • Are your machines getting the files from the K1000 or from a replication share? If t's the share, make sure that machine is ok. - rockhead44 7 years ago
    • I believe it's the K1000. Is there a way to check? I did not set this up, I've just been maintaining it as the admin who set it up left unexpectedly, so I'm a novice. - iksander13 7 years ago
      • I am not near mine right now to tell you exactly where to go. Here,s a link to the 6.3 admin guide detailing it.

        https://documents.software.dell.com/kace-k1000/6.3/administrator-guide/getting-started-with-the-k1000-systems-management-appliance/using-replication-shares/create-replication-shares - rockhead44 7 years ago
    • Using those instructions, there is no replication share. - iksander13 7 years ago
  • is the name of your kbox short or full in the amp.conf file? - SMal.tmcc 7 years ago
    • Where would I find that file? - iksander13 7 years ago
      • The reason I ask is I discovered a bug here if the name is like "host=kbox" instead of host =kbox.tmcc.edu it will not copy files to the clients. any script or task without files works fine. You can locate that file under c:\programdata\dell\kace

I have a cir that reads that file due to the problems if that is not correct it creates many headaches

        ShellCommandTextReturn(cmd.exe /c type C:\programdata\dell\kace\amp.conf) - SMal.tmcc 7 years ago
    • I just looked at it, and it is correct. - iksander13 7 years ago
  • Are they still enabled? - rockhead44 7 years ago
  • Did you check the supported operating systems for the associated software titles? - chucksteel 7 years ago
    • Just checked to make sure, but those are still correct. - iksander13 7 years ago
  • Are you targeting based on a label? If so, does that label still work as intended (i.e. assigned to the computers you expect)? If so, do the expected machines still show up on the very bottom of the Managed Install page (if you click "Show All" right above "Managed Install Tasks")? - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • I am installing based on machine name. - iksander13 7 years ago
      • Do you see the status of those computers if you click "Show All" on the bottom of the MI page? If the job has reached max tries you can reset it by disabling, saving, then re-enabling the job. - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • It shows 2 of 3 tries, last sync was on 8/12. shows the machine I am trying to install on. - iksander13 7 years ago
      • That seems to indicate the MI files are at least being uploaded to the computer (your question says otherwise). Can you confirm? - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • I am looking in c:/programdata/dell/kace/downloads, and there is nothing. Is that the correct location to look
      ? - iksander13 7 years ago
      • Oops, I just noticed you have "Delete Downloaded Files" selected in your job, so that's expected. Uncheck it and verify the files are getting sent. (You could also simply have the folder open on a computer then force that computer to check in; you should see the files being created). - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • Nothing appears in that folder during or after a inventory. After unchecking delete dowloaded files. - iksander13 7 years ago
  • Go to a targeted computer, open a command prompt as admin, and run the command "[KACE install location]\runkbot.exe 6 0" Then copy/paste the output. KACE install location will be Program Files with or without "(x86)" depending on arch - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • be careful with quote marks, i.e.
      "C:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\KACE\runkbot.exe" 6 0
notice the switches outside the quotes - JasonEgg 7 years ago
    • C:\>"c:\Program Files (x86)\Dell\KACE\runkbot.exe" 6.0
      kbot[0:0] @ 2016-08-17T10:12:37 (activity) ParseCommandLine: ERROR - ArgCount <
      2
      kbot[0:0] @ 2016-08-17T10:12:37 (output)
      Usage: runkbot <kbotid> <kbot version> [-noLogUpload] [-launchtype=type] [-eve
      nt=eventtype]
      Examples:
      runkbot 3 0 // Update kbots cache
      runkbot 4 0 // Update inventory

Here is the output. - iksander13 7 years ago
      • the params are "6 0" not "6.0" - JasonEgg 7 years ago
  • At this point you may need to save your managed installation again. The default attempts is three and KACE will stop trying after that. Saving the MI again will reset the attempts count. - chucksteel 7 years ago
    • Recycles the attempts and gets to the end. - iksander13 7 years ago
  • After working with support (we had an issue with lapsed support), we've found out that all of my associated files are gone. Does anyone know how this can happen? Also, where are those files located on the Kbox? I can't seem to navigate to them. - iksander13 7 years ago
