Assign Computer Assets to a User

Probably something simple, but for the life of me I cannot figure out how to do it.  We are running KBOX 1100 now at version 6.3.  Noticed one of the new features on the Service Desk, shows how many tickets a user has opened (working) and Assigned Assets (currently zero for all users).

What I am trying to figure out is how to assign assets, such as computers, to users.  I thought it would be as simple as opening the asset, but there does not appear to be any options to do that.  

Help?

  • Is there a field of type "user"? If not, you may need to add it to the computer asset. We have "Assigned to" as one of our computer asset fields which links to the user. - grayematter 9 years ago
  • I realized that about an hour after I posted, but did not get back to the site.

    Thanks for the assist though.

    Another question though - I assign the asset to myself (as an example) and then assign it to someone else. I thought that KACE would track the entire history of the asset - including who it would be assigned to. I have checked the history (and I am tracking the new field) but there is nothing there related to who had it.

As mentioned in the comments to link any asset to a User you will need to add a field to the Asset Type that is signified as "User". Once a value is then added to the Asset record ie it is Assigned to user - Geoff, you will be able to go Settings >User on your KBox and look up Geoff to see the Assets that are assigned to him.

If you want to get clever you could consider writing a ticket rule to populate the user field in your Asset from the user field within Inventory so that all of your Device Assets are assigned to their owners.
