Associate a profile with the MAC address of a PC during installation

Hi All,

We are trying to automate the deployment of new Windows PCs arriving on our fleet using k1000 and k2000. For this, we want to be able to perform all the actions requiring a technician before installation.

To do this, we need to create the profile of the device before its installation by assigning it:

  • its name,
  • its MAC address,
  • labels for additional information,
  • additional assets.

Once this information is entered, we perform a scripted installation (manual deployment) using the PC. No further manipulation is required from there.

The objective would be to synchronize using the MAC address the profile of the PC created on Kace with the PC being installed.

The "scripted installation" part is already functional by putting the data after installation, this is not a problem...

Can anyone help me?

I'm confused about what exactly you mean by "profile." Do you mean a "user state" you would get from a USMT Scan? Or do you mean a standard set of software/configurations? Or something else? Also, are you using both SDA and SMA?

Comments:
  • Hello,
The "profile" of a device corresponds to all the configuration and software that it will have to adopt.
    We therefore include :
    - its name,
    - its MAC address (this one will be for the link with the real machine),
    - labels which will give it information on its configuration and on the applications to be installed,
    - assets which will allow technicians to find the location of the workstation and its history.
This profile should be visible on SMA.

We own SDA and SMA. For convenience, it would be helpful to create the "profile" on SMA but I have not found any way to match the MAC address of a computer on SMA with the MAC address of a computer that deploys to SDA.

I have also tried using the SetComputer task on SDA. It would be able to read the SMA database to give it a name. However, I didn't figure out how to do this either. - superdada 2 years ago
