AVG blocking KACE services (and much, MUCH more):

This is incredibly stupid but:  Why is AVG attempting to block all of my KACE services????????

We recently updated to 2013 AVG business edition, and HAHAHHAHAH It killed not only my KACE agent, but MULTIPLE (read: dozen) other programs that were installed on our PC's.  Now I have AVG pop ups on multiple PC's whenever the Kinventory tries to run.

I apologize for the unprofessionalism in this post but, "WHAT THE HELL?!"  I know Dell is a brand new company and all </sarcasm> but how am I supposed to effectively secure my environment (with avg 13 or 14) while running KACE at the same time (or any other program, for that matter?).

"Don't use AVG" should not be the answer, especially since AVG, so far, has been the ONLY virus protection to save us from multiple cryptolocker attacks.

Anyone having any issues in this regard?  Anyone else realize half their services and processes and program files were wiped by AVG2013/14 business edition??

  • Article doesn't even seem to mention kinventory and inventory? Those are the processes it seems to be blocking.

on that note: because of cryptolocker and it's crap, I have seen the cryptolocker running as kinventory.exe in the past. (I think it just acts like the last process it saw running)

Even still, whitelisting these things does no good if when i INSTALL the avg agent it goes through and deletes half of my program files and process reg keys in the first place. So far the solution is to reinstall the agent (and other programs) AFTER the avg install, and that can't possibly be the right answer??? - Wildwolfay 10 years ago
    • Those executables reside in the directories that are stated. I see it doesn't state Program Files (x86) but that is the install directory if you are using 64bit obviously...

Can't you set AVG to quarantine items first? Anyway - sounds like you got your hands full with this mess. Good luck brother... - jegolf 10 years ago
      • of course it can quarentine, if it even reported it.
When we initially installed avg on multiple computers, we couldn't figure out why half their programs stopped working. According to AVG admin these avg's hadn't even RUN a scan yet, let alone quarentined anything. no no no - the install alone just wiped a ton of keys. no program was "missing" any of the run files in its program files, but the keys to run these files were gone.

Wilcom, canoscanner (canon scanner program), coreldraw, KACE agent, Desktop Authority, were SOME of the programs that magically needed reinstallation post-AVG. It also restricted all WRITE access to the C:\TEMP and C:\windows\TEMP folder, which our ERP uses.

ITninja is not JUST for the KACE device, so I was hoping to get a bit more insight since this DOES kill my KACE 5.4 / 5.5 agents. - Wildwolfay 10 years ago
