BlackListing of Software

I have been tasked with blocking DiskCryptor from being installed on any of our PCs or Servers.  I found the following instructions for blacklisting an application.

How to Blacklist Applications using the SMA (126771)

https://support.quest.com/kb/126771/how-to-blacklist-applications-using-the-sma

I get to the part where I am supposed to search for the software in the software catalog but it isn't in any of the three tabs (Discovered, Not Discovered, and Uncatalogued).  I tried adding the software in the software (not software catalog) interface but that did not help.

So I guess my question is how can I blocklist a software that is not included in the software catalog?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

you need to add it into the catalog.
If you cannot find it in the catalog, you need to:
1. install the software on one client.
2. check in the client
3. now it is in Discovered or Uncatalogued.
3.1 if it is in Uncatalogued click it and add it to the Catalog and fill out all info.
4. you are able to blacklist it now.

If it is already installed and the system in question has been checked in but the appliance cannot see it, you should open a SR with support to discuss additional options.

To be honest, the best answer for many customer is not to use Kace SMA (K1) to block applications from running, even in the event the program/process runs with Standard User permissions, but to use another product.  Kace Privilege Manager for Windows would be a better pick.  you can use it to block executables by a publisher or named by you or your team.

Thank you JMorano and Nico_K I'll pass both of your suggestions on to my supervisor and see what he thinks.

Can KACE block the installation too?  Or does it only block the app from launching after it's already installed?  Any tricks to get the former working?
