Boot to K2000 instead of RSA

I am trying to get a KBE that boots to my K2000 instead of my RSA.  I have used the KBE manipulator, but the resulting PBE is generic, and just ends at a dos prompt in a non Kace PBE.

Using the Media manager allows me to successfully create a KBE, but obviously it won't allow me to capture an image as the client computer talks to the RSA, not the K2000.

Am I missing a step in using the Manipulator?

This is all for Windows 7 x64 Enterprise, and I have AIK installed.

*EDIT*

The main issue here is that when I use the KBE Manipulator, the Pre Boot Environment comes out "generic" meaning it does not launch the Kace deployment environment.

Is the IP address that you are using in KBE manipulator or Media Manager have your RSA IP?

Comments:
  • I have told the KBE manipulator and media manager to use my K2000's IP address, not the RSA's. I know the manipulator is parsing my network for the server IP address, but not sure if the Media manager is. - bps94105 8 years ago
    • Just for giggles, in the KBE Manipulator, click on the Configure menu and go to "Modify K2000 Server Connection" and use the Radio Button "Use the K2000 static IP Address". Create a KBE from that. I'm not sure if it would work, but it is worth a try. - zgillette 8 years ago
      • That is how I am pointing it to my K2000 - bps94105 8 years ago

    • First thought is how are you connected to the subnet that the K2000 is on? Are you trying this over VPN? When you get the CMD prompt are there any errors displayed like "Cannot mount directory"?

Another thing i have done is install the AIK on a fresh machine (i typically use a fresh scripted install in a VM for this) and then run KBEM from that machine.

Lastly i would probably start to move to the Windows 10 ADK and create PE10 based KBEs. It can still image Win 7 and Win 8 and will have some drivers that will allow it to work on newer models of PCs. You will have to get the PE10 driver packs and any model specific NIC/Storage drivers but i think the effort in getting a PE10 KBE will be worth it. I have been using PE10 exclusively for a while now with many customers and it seems like a solid option. - jamie_kace 8 years ago

The answer was to create the KBE using KBE manipulator, but in a plain jane system (in my case a VM) with no other software installed other than the AIK and Media manager.

Now the KBE works like I need it to.
