Software Deployment Question

Can't deploy Java 7 Update 9 as a managed installation.

I have been trying to get Java to install as a managed install for a while now. As a work around I included Java in the base image that was deployed to the labs over the summer. Now that Java 7 has been released I would like to get them updated without having to visit each machine. The Patching feature of KBOX has been keeping them up to date within Java 6 but will not (that I know of) update them to Java 7.

The installation command I have been trying is

jre-7u9-windows-i586.exe /s

Target machines are all Dell 745 running Windows 7 Pro x64.

This works fine when run from the command prompt on a machine but will not deploy through KBOX. I've read several other articles on here where people are able to get Java to deploy using the same command but it hasn't worked for me yet. I suspect the Managed Action setting in the deployment may be the problem but haven't found one that works. Any insight into what I'm overlooking would be appreciated.

Answer Summary:
We finally ended up creating a script to run the installer as an admin account and deployed it to a smart label containing machines needing Java 7 installed. Thanks for the help.

Unless you have the KBOX downloading installers the patching side wont do that until you get it up to Java 7. Unless you are doing it as a full command line , you don't need to list the .exe name , just the argument /s in the run parameters areas.

1. make sure the OS you are targeting is selected for your Java install under Inventory > Software

2. can you show us a screenshot of your MI?
