citrix packaging

Recently started working on citrix packaging environment. Already worked in desktop environment but not much familiar with citrix. So just want to know what's the difference between two in terms of packaging and deployment through SCCM.

Appreciate responses.

The tricky part of Citrix stuff (in the old world of server based computing and MSI) was getting user session information through to the Citrix session. This was done clumsily with the Shadow key (from RDS or Citrix). During an install any user reg keys and INI files would be copied to a Shadow key, then when a users runs the app remotely, the shadow key would be passed to them.

This was not great, most people use scripts, so users would launch a vbs, that would write all the reg keys copy ALL user files (not just INI files). Then launch the exe that was the 'app'

Then came Logon Authority, RES and AppSense.
Pretty much the same time as App-V (formerly SoftGrid)

If you are app-V'ing apps, it is all very very easy, as the user gets the whole App-V environment, all the machine stuff and the user stuff.

Hope that helps
