Critical:Kace SMA offboard backup failed with one or more errors:

Our backup failed during a full disk. We have removed not needed files anymore, but since then the following error message appears on the dashboard:

When checking the backup log all is well. The only warning we have is the following because of a disabled offboard backup: [2019-10-15 02:42:44 +0200] [offboard_backup] WARNING: Offboard backup is disabled

We do not need an offboard backup, but my guess is the error occurs because of the offboard backup warning. Anyone has any suggestion to troubleshoot or fix this message in the dashboard?

They mentioned that at UserKon and that is by design.  They have the philosophy that you should also do off-board backups vm or not.

You _NEED_ an offboard backup.
A snapshot is nice but if something is really broken on the backend and the snapshot has just copied it away the appliance needs to be rebuilt. 
And this is only possible with a full backup.
Also from time to time you need to rebuild the appliance due to additional needs of the backend OS (like bigger swap space) or your appliance simply grown that the old 250GB or 500GB image does not fit anymore and you need the 3TB one.

Right now it is possible to collect the backup from the backend if the appliance is not completely broken but for security reasons this will not be possible in the future, when the appliance is encrypted.

With the backup files copied off the appliance. A new virtual appliance or a physical appliance can be re-imaged and the backup files restored.

Snapshots or 3rd party backups can fail which we have no method to support or help during a disaster recovery. 


Using a FTP client can you check if a 0 (zero) byte file called OFFBOARD_BACKUP_FAILED exists in /kbackup  (FTP dir).
