CRM 2011 Outlook Client Update Rollup

I'm using the KACE K2100, to deploy a scripted installation of Windows, Office, and other applications. The CRM client installs, but when I go to install Update Rollup 18, it fails with Return code: 4294967294, Unknown error.

I've downloaded UR 18 and extracted the executable. Then zipped up those files and uploaded them to the K2100, and used the following command/parameter to deploy: crmupdatewrapper.exe /q

I also tried running crmupdatewrapper.exe /q from the cmd line, using a .bat file. I zipped up the .bat file in the root of the UR18 folder and ran the .bat file in the command/parameter field of the K2100.

I've installed Office, Symantec Endpoint Protection client, Bit9 client, Firefox, Adobe Reader, and several other applications with no problem using the post install task in the KACE K2100, but this one doesn't want to play nice. I'm hoping it's just a syntax error, but I've scrubbed the Internet and tried the suggestions I've found to no avail. Has anyone been able to successfully deploy this, or any other, Update Rollup for CRM 2011 for Outlook?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

  • What happens when you install it manually, i.e. deploy using KACE up until CRM and then (using a system command prompt) attempt to install manually... do you still get the same result?

    • Good call. It did not install when I did it manually. I was getting a weird error, so I retraced my steps and realized that when I downloaded the Update Rollup 18 executable, I used 7Zip to extract the files, instead of typing out the executable as follows:
      CRM2011-Client-KB2958724-ENU-i386.exe /extract

So I created another package to upload to the K2100, using the command above, and it successfully installed using the parameter:
      crmupdatewrapper.exe /q

Guess it didn't like being extracted using another utility...

      Thanks!
