CutePDF Writer 'Printer Offline'

I'm working on repackaging CutePDF Writer and Ghostscript into an MSI through Wise.
I've managed to get the MSI to install properly with help from the package KB, but the 'CutePDF Writer' printer underneath 'Devices and Printers' appears as offline. When I try to remove the 'Use Printer Offline' I get an message saying 'Error processing command'. I have tried to restart the print spooler service but still printer is offline. The MSI package also contains a service for start/stop the spooler service.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

How about running a 'gap capture'?

Install your MSI package, and then using your favourite lightweight snapshot tool (InstallRite, InControl, PictureTaker et al) install the vendor setups for your application over the top.

This should identify what's missing in your package, so you can incorporate it into your MSI.

Hope that helps,

Be sure to enable "Capture changes in hardware registry" during SetupCapture, and ofcourse restart the Print Spooler service during install/uninstall.

I captured the install with changes in hardware registry and added the Print Spooler server to stop/start during install, still the printer appears as offline.
I will give 'gap capture' a try and see if that makes any difference.

You could try to add a custom action which installs the printer via printui.exe
The path for the .inf file for the printer drive should be found in the device manager.
I think this would be the best way to make sure, that the printer is correctly installed. I've also had bad times trying to capture a printer setup
and that was the way which has always worked best for me.

There are two parts to Cute PDF Writer. 1. is a program called Ghostscript and then the PDF Software. You can install these silent by...

ghostscript.exe

cutewriter.exe /verysilent

GhostScript is the back end tham makes Cute PDF work.
