Delete Outlook Source from Office 2007 install

Hi, I want to be able to install Office 2007 without Outlook. This is easily done. However I also want to be able to remove the Outlook source folder as we leave a copy of the source files on the users PC's and we don't want anybody installing Outlook when they shouldn't be.
However if the folder is removed I get the following error when trying to install Office :

"Setup could not find any available products to install. Please contact your system administrator"

A quick look at the installation log file confirms that it does do a check to ensure that all source folders are in place before commencing with the install.

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

Ta.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? Travel to Redmond...baseball bats...

The Office installer is brain-dead in this respect. I have had to deploy the entire suite, just to get Excel 2007 onto some machines. Priceless.

I don't understand why having the source media present is an issue, unless your users have local admin privileges. If they don't, they can't instal it anyway. If they do, you need to use those baseball bats a bit closer to home.

If your users do, however, have admin rights, you could create your transform file (which is how I'm assuming you're installing your office 2007) so that Outlook is "not availabe and hidden" so that users are not able to add it via add/remove programs.

This is how we've kept users from installing a specific feature of office 2007...although I've never actually checked if you can install it by launching some *.exe instead, lol, whoops.

Let me know how it goes :)

Doesn't Office 2007 use patches instead of transforms?

Yep. Not sure why the change on using MSP vs MST, but same result. (Use the wizard, generate your MSP, etc).

So....If your users do, however, have admin rights, you could create your transform fileshould have read : "If your users do, however, have admin rights, you could create your patch file..."

Anyway, it's irrelevant since the OP already said that he's preventing it being installed. What he wants to do is avoid copying the entire source locally, something which apparently one cannot avoid. if anyone knows differently, I'd be interested to hear, too! :)

LOL...it's not that. I just recall my early days in various support roles, barking up several trees owing to being directed the wrong way by incorrect choice of words. I just had a vision of someone reading about transforming Office 2007 and wasting hours, maybe days, trying to get it to work! :)

Giving it a bit more thought to the OP..King, how are the users installing Outlook by itself? Do you also copy the setup.exe for office2007 locally and are concerned users can run that?
