Dell PowerEdge T410 - Server 2012 - Cannot Boot

We have a Dell PowerEdge T410 running Server 2012R2. There was a power failure and we cannot boot into Windows. When booting I am presented with 3 options:

1 - Continue (boot then restarts)

2 - Troubleshoot

3 - Continue (boot then restarts to same options)

Under Troubleshoot we have:

1 - SysImage Recovery (No SysImage Recovery available)

2 - Command Prompt (Able to boot to command prompt, ran chkdsk, failed)

3 - Startup Settings (Only option is to reboot)

The machine was setup as a VH and ran a VM using HyperV. We have no backups of the data. All of the data we would need to recover is on the VM and not the host.

Are there any additional troubleshooting steps we can perform to "fix" the current problem? Not sure what else to try maybe from command prompt?

If we can't fix the VH and need new hardware - How can I restore the data from the previous VM running on this VH to the new device we would setup? If I'm not mistaken all of the data should be stored in a single .VHDX file? Could I use command prompt to browse to the VHDX file then use something like xcopy to copy the contents to an external?

Please Help!

Thanks!

-Troy

Hi,
if you can get hold of the virtual disk file(s) from the physical hard drive, then you can mount this and recover the required files. Just hope that the physical hdd is not defect... Before trying anything, make a sector copy of it using recovery / cloning software to be on the safe side.

Here is a link on how to mount a vhd...

As for the virual machine, if you know the hw specs, you can create this and use your backed-up virtual disk and attach it to the virtual machine...

Cheers
Phil
