Deploying an image fails
I am deploying an image and it appears to work but then the new computer will not reboot. Says it needs a Windows repair but that doesn't work.
I discovered that in the BIOS in my original computer the hard drive was set to IDE. Does that mean that any computer that uses this image has to be set to IDE?
Is there anyway to fix my original computer so it is AHCI short of rebuilding it?

If you are deploying an image to a computer that has AHCI default for the HDD, then the image captured should also have been AHCI.
As long as you have the proper drivers for achi in your image an ide sysprep'd image will work. That is the purpose of sysprep, to release the hardware bindings. Just make sure you have the achi drivers available in the image to be discovered. If you are syspreping you can place the drivers in c:\windows\inf\some_sub_dir and post sysprep will discover them when it scans this area for drivers.
