Deploying office 2000 Pro bypassing serial number
Hello, how can I make this work with group policy? Or with anything for that matter?
ANy help is appreciated. We have the premium version that doesn't require a serial number and we push that out. However we get a weird glitch that asks the user if they want to register when they open Outlook. It appears that only a power user or administrator can only make the prompt go away. We answer no and it doesn't come back. A user without those rights though it seems to always open up again when they open up Outlook again. So anyways, I think I read somewhere that's a glitch with premium. We do have professional but when we deploy it it asks the user for a serial number. I think there's a work around for it. Anyone know of it? Thanks!

I believe you need to do an Admin Install of Office first. Have you done that?

You need to go to a command prompt and run setup /a from the root of the Office CD. This will initiate an administrative install of Office. This is also the admin install procedure for most all software that is in native Microsoft .msi format.
To be safe, recreate your transform after you have created your administrative install point.

Ok, I need just a lil clarification. This is what we do. We copy all the cd contents of Office into a folder on our applications server. We then made a transform from that data1.msi. We then add the data1.msi onto the group polciy and add the transform. I don't believe you can do command lines when deploying from group policy.
So, are you saying do a transform off a admin installed office on a workstation? Then use the transform with the folder I made on the application server?

Let's say your CD ROM is drive e:\ Put your Office CD in, go to a command prompt, change directories to e:\, then run "setup /a". This will run you through an administrative installation wizard, which includes entering your key. You will have the option of selecting the folder where you want the folders copied.
Then re-create your transform.
Then add your package in Active Directory / Group Policy.

Now I remember why I used our premium version.. we only have an oem version of professional. I guess you can't do admin installs with oem.
So guess we need to go buy the full version of the media for 2000 and 2003 for the future.
