Does AppDeploy Repackager support packaging 64 bit applications on 64 bit Windows 7 ?

I am looking to create various packages that I can script to automatically build system images. OS platform will be mostly

Windows 7 64bit with a mix of 32bit and 64bit applications. Will AppDeploy Repackager support making packages in this scenario?

It scans the entire system and builds a package from the changes so it should work. There is however no specific features in place to do anything special for 64-bit applications. Please let us know if 64-bit applications give you any kind of problems that may need to be addressed by the developers of the AppDeploy Repackager.

hi all

i tried to build a msi on a Win7 64bit enterprise but the comparing process (after the initial and the second snapshop) is getting stuck at around 90% of the progress bar.
The application is still using 25% of the CPU and Memory usage is growing really slow and not very much. Also after let this running over night for some hours did not finish.

Anyone with the same issue?

Thanks
Bjoern

  • I also have the same issue around 90% it dissapered. Pretty sure it got something to do between 32 and 64 bits compatibility. - Fultso 9 years ago

I haven't tested the repackager on 64bit myself so I don't know how much compatability it has. But for what it's worth the system requirements don't list 64bit from the KACE website.

  • Microsoft® Windows Vista SP1 or later (32-bit), Windows XP SP2 or later (32-bit)
  • 1GB of RAM
  • A clean system on which to perform repackaging operations

  • If anyone is still reading this list, I just tried my first 64bit application package on W7 64bit. It all worked as I'd expect apart from the packaged application installed itself in `program files (x86)` where 32 bit apps go, rather than `program files`. My xml file shows the files in the right place. Any thoughts? - Merv Thomas 10 years ago
    • The capture is ignorant of the 64-bit architecture. Where it gets installed however is something controlled by the MSI (the default for 32 bit apps on Windows is program files (x86) but that can be overridden with the INSTALLDIR property. - bkelly 9 years ago
      • Bearing in mind of course that the summary information stream is different in 32 bit and 64 bit MSIs so it needs more than just a tweak to INSTALLDIR. In addition, one of the attributes on MSI components also exists to indicate that the component is either 32 bit or 64 bit. - EdT 9 years ago

I use InstallAware's PackageAware. It works without needing a clean system. It is also ridiculously fast and supports both 32 bit and 64 bit captures, together with custom profile creation for any capture. You can even work with snapshot based captures, or just use their lightning-fast direct capture, which works without snapshots. Even the snapshots are pretty, well, snappy :)
