Duplicate PCs

We are always rebuilding Macs and PCs here (using our K2000), which means that unfortunately our K1000 has many duplicate machines appearing with the old imaged PC and the newly imaged PC. Is there anyway to get the K1000 to notice duplicate machines by comparing the MAC address or the machines serial number and update the existing asset as opposed to creating a new one?

Cheers guys

Mike

Answer Summary:
The KBOX will use the KUID as the match. If you can run a post install to update the KUID that is generated with the old ID then you could but it won't do it automatically. Re-imaged devices will show up as duplicates this article might help. http://www.kace.com/support/kb/index.php?action=artikel&cat=2&id=1136&artlang=en

We have a strict policy of only installing the client after a computer gets reimaged, and making sure the computer gets the same name as it had prior to reimage (asset tag numbers for us), making sure that the original inventory item no longer exists so that the new one generated ties itself to the original asset record, yet we still get a number of duplicates. Any other advice short of wiping the entire database and starting from scratch? ( which I would love to do even with the loss of data)
