Are you installing the package with zen with the same user and same rights?
This is curious because regarding to Novells Knowledgebase (and equal experience) the ZEN MSI Error 1603 means Fatal Error, most often in conjunction with a lack of rights.

I had the same problem with acrobat std v7. The msi and mst would run from the cmd prompt, start > run and by opening the msi from the network location. However, it wouldn't run from my ZEN application object. I kept receiving the MSI 1603 error. To resolve the error, open the ZEN application object, select the "other" tab, remove the setting for "zenappDistributionType". (This entry was set to a value of 2.) Then, my acrobat msi package ran correctly.

I never had to change that "zenappDistributionType" until now. What does it mean?
And what did your EventViewer tell exactly when you received the 1603 error?

Is everything up to date?
