Error when saving to documents after K2000 deployment

07/06/2013 1566 views

We recently deployed over 100+ images to new machines we got (Optiplex 3010) and they seem to all be getting an error when trying to save to servers. We are using our dell k2000 to image and deploy. This has never happened with previous deployments.

The error users are getting now is "There has been a network or file permissions error. The network connection may be lost. (\\easifile\users\dchang\test.docx)." However the users are able to save locally then drag the document to wherever they needed it to be.

It only gives me issues when I am trying to save something using any app from MS. Whether is Word, Excel or powerpoint. etc. I can save stuff using Paint or Notepad. I uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office 2010 pro+ and no fix.

I remapped all the drives even though they are associated with our login script which didn't help either.

We are kind of hit a brick wall here so I was wondering if anyone here can give me a hand. Please let me know if there is any additional information that is needed.

  • The only thing I can suggest to check is the "Trust Center" settings within Office.
Try with Word, File, Options, Trust Center
    "Trust Center Settings" button

You can try chuck that file under "Trusted Locations" and "Trusted Documents" if you wish and make sure you select "Allow Trusted Locations on my network"

I believe if you perform an Office Customization Tool for your Office you can define these before you push Office out (if this works!)

Best of luck, have a good day.

I had a similiar problem with Acrobat a few years back. It was indeed a trust issue. Try configuring a server to be trusted via the registry key below and see if it resolves the issue. You can then redeploy Office 2010 with the trusted locations built-in or create a simple batch script to add the locations to the registry path.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Office/14.0/application_name/Security/Trusted Locations
