Supporting Mac Question

Has anyone deployed MAC OS X using a "thin" DMG or hardware agnostic image using the K2000?

Rather than making use of images we would prefer to deploy thin installs of Mac OS X using the Apple DMG, is this currently possible? I have read that this can be done using Deploy Studio JAMF Casper. If this is not possible using the K2000 can someone please point us in the right direction with regards to creating a hardware agnostic image of Mac OS X?

  • We have been imaging macs for a long time and the general trick to building a hardware agnostic image is to create the image on the newest Mac you own and make sure the operating system is the most current version (10.8.4). Certainly some hardware is simply too old, like a Mac Pro 3,1 compared to a Mac Pro 1,1 but in general using this approach should work with range of macs. No experience with the k2000 we use deploy studio for our dual boot images as it works like a champ.

Jbr32's answer is correct: build the netboot environment and the image on the newest Mac hardware you have. Doing this will include drivers for all Intel Macs. The only thing the K2000 no longer supports is PowerPC chipsets.
