How to change couple of files in an installer?
I am an end user and not an application developer. So this question might be pretty basic for you guys.
I am given an installer (an .exe done using InstallShield) which installs many files in C:\Program Files\..., C:\windows and also in registry. Among these, I want to replace one .exe in C:\Program Files\... with an other one and recreate (repackage) the installer.
Kindly advise me as to how to do this. What program do I need? Preferably any freeware, if not some trial version.
Thanks very much.

I would recommend a patch replacing the file rather than repackage the whole thing, but thats up to individual judgement
InstallShield repackaging utility don't come free i don't think, and not having the expertice i would find a application developer in your area doing it for you
Sorry, no quick solutions from here.

sridar,
if you have SMS 2003, you are entitled for Installshield SMS Admin Studio, and it's free (as in "no additional cost").
Also, depending on the type of installshield package that you deal with, it may be easily unpacked (WinRAR often picks up those), so that .msi file can be extracted.
You could use the .msi file for administrative installation. Chances are, administrative installation will give you expanded source files. Use those files to do your file swapping...
