How to customise the width of an Asset Detail field

In the Asset Type Detail page I have added an Asset Field - Notes

Is there a way of expanding the width of this field? (you can with the Service Desk configuration>Ticket List Layout)
If not can you increase the number of characters to unlimited? (currently can add up to 254 characters including spaces)
