I have a msi package that will install a service and write instructions in HKLM and prompt user for UAC to accept or not. What I need it if I install it it will not ask for UAC to accept it or not. What changes I made to the software for this modification and how to do this?

  • Try to see if you can use AutoIt. This is kind of scripting which will wait till the prompt occurs & will choose the options that you need based on what you wrote in the script.

as soon as an installer attempts to write to areas that a "normal" user does not have the permissions you will automatically get a UAC prompt. What you are asking is not possible.

  • Thanks Phil. Is there any other possibility to install the sofware on standered user account without poping up for UAC.

    • Click-Once - BUT that will not fulfil your requirements, you have a service which ur adding, requires UAC.
    • Yes, there is. You would have to sign the MSI, allow (via GPO) all users to installed signed MSI's.
This is a tall order, as you need:
      1. A Verified Certificate to sign the MSI
      2. The Code Signing Toolset
      3. Set the GPO

2 & 3 are easy, 1 is hard... (and could be expensive). If you only need to deploy it in your own domain, then you can create your own root certificate (if you don't already have one). Create a code signing certificate from your root certificate and use that to sign the MSI.
