I am trying to image a Dell E6540

I am trying to image a Dell E6540 laptop will I need to perform a sysprep before performing this I am  in need of assistance with this issue.

I wanted to know if I need to sysprep every time before I perform a scripted installation on different model dell laptops?

  • I didn't sysprep the Dell6540 I tried to image the machine and received a long scripted error message and I was not successful this was a laptop that belonged to someone

if I can access the laptop will I need to perform a sysprep and then attempt a scripted installation? or will I need to create an answer file before doing a sysprep - elonda.carter 7 years ago
  • Also I have a screen that has yellow and red stripes on the laptop after I have tried to run a scripted installation - elonda.carter 7 years ago
  • No you don't need to sysprep each time you deploy the image to another machine.
You only sysprep the first time that you are trying to capture the image.
After that you choose the image from the deployments...... and add all the pre and post install tasks you want to add . No need for any answer file.
Don't forget to choose the "Use driver feed" in the image if you want to install all the drivers. - akmagnum 7 years ago
    • the issue is that when I pixi boot and it comes to the screen to choose that's when the screen comes up with a black screen with error messages.then it had yellow and red stripes on the screen how can I get past that? - elonda.carter 7 years ago
    • can I make a duplicate of the gold master and then use the driver feed to harvest the drivers for that make and model laptop to be used for future model dell laptops? when I connected the laptop it gave me a boot error message and I was unable to get to the screen where the scripted installs are located. - elonda.carter 7 years ago

With win7, 8 and 10 images if they are will be in a domain or you use bitlocker or sus at all they must always be sysprep'd to avoid duplicate SIDs.  Having dup sids will break both these things.  With scripted installs you do not sysprep you provide an answer file to automate the installation.
