Desktop icons unorganized after sysprep & imaging

Hello,

I'm in the process of building my first image and it's been a pretty daunting task.  I've come across alot of great resources as far as solving most of my issues but one really small issue still remains.  I'm trying to organize desktop icons on my Windows 10 image.  I've tried copy profile and manually copying the profile to the default user folder but the icons still continue to disorganize themselves.  In the VM that I created and took the image from I grouped all office icons together and all browser icons together.  Unfortunately it keeps reorganizing the apps in this arrangement.  I'm all out of ideas.  If any one can offer advice I'd very much appreciate it!  Thank you in advance!

  • Just some helpful advice

; Add 'This PC' Desktop Shortcut to Default User
    [HKEY_USERS\Default\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel]
    "{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}"=dword:00000000

That will get 'This PC' and 'Recycle Bin' to group up next to each other.

Create/Import that key into the Default User hive at C:\Users\Default\NTUSER.DAT to get the 'This PC' without the shortcut swatch in the lower left corner.

I'd say only place Browsers on the desktop for a cleaner look. I've not looked into sorting order. But now I want to, just in case.

The following link also has some helpful customization's and pre-made scripts to aid in changing default user preferences.

Also, can you post a screen cap of what you are expecting it to look like? - mz6569 6 years ago
