Is it necessary to select a Windows operating system if I only want to keep third party apps updated?

We are switching to WSUS for keeping Windows operating systems updated.  We want to continue using KACE patching for all third party software we have installed on our workstations.  It seems, though, that to patch third party software I must select at least one OS from the list.  So, since we do not have any Windows 7 operating systems on our network, I chose that.  Now, however, Almost all of our computers are showing up as "completed (Platform not supported or subscribed)."  Why is this?  Is it not possible to simply update third party software without updating the OS?

Good morning,

no you do not need to choose an OS to upgrade your third party applications. I have a couple of questions to be able to better help you. Which version of SMA are you running? On which OS do you try to run the patching? Do you still have maintenance on your license? And is there a reason why you switch to WSUS? KACE SMA is way smarter in update the OS patches as well and you have better control and reporting about it :)

Cheers Sven

  • Well it's strange. When I remove any OS I have selected, KACE automatically removes all third party applications I had set to update. And then I'm unable to select any again until I at least select one OS to update. So, I selected one, then unchecked all aspects of the OS to update. And then I added back the applications.

I'm also, on a whole lot of my schedules, getting the message "Platform not supported or subscribed." It says those computers completed, but there are no updates installed. It's very strange. - cornponious 1 year ago
    • Good morning, on which SMA version are you currently? Is it the latest 13.0? - sven.hain 1 year ago
