KACE Product Support Question

Is the VM contained in the free trial download based off a Windows 2012 R2 system?

I cannot get this appliance to install on my Hyper V system.  I have downloaded the zip file, extracted it and verified the files integrity.  When I click Import Virtual Machine and navigate to the unzipped folder I either get to click Next and it shows me an empty list of virtual machines, or depending on what folder or subfolder I choose, it will give me one of two messages:   "Hyper-V did not find virtual machinees to import from location 'D:\vk100h_6_4_12075\'.  this folder 'D:\vk100h_6_4_1207275\Virtual Machines' could not be found.  You might not have permission to access it."   or "Hyper-V did not find virtual machines to import from location 'D:\vk1000h_6_4_12075\vk100...\Virtual Machines\'.  The operation failed with error code '32784'.

I am logged in as the administrator so I know I have permissions and when I search that error code I only come up with you cannot import a vm that was created in Windows 2012 R2 into Windows 2012.  I have Windows Server 2012 standard edition 64-bit.

Can anyone please assist or point me in the right direction?

Thank you.

Err, you just answered your own question??! You need to import the vm into a Windows 2012 R2 hyper-v system, not Window 2012...

Therefore the vm is in the Windows 2012 R2 hyper-v format which will probably have features which are required  in that version. You could probably work around it by creating new vm and just attaching the vhd.

  • I sort of answered my own question. I was looking for confirmation only because the requirements for the appliance say Server 2012/Server 2012 R2 but the instructions don't say anything about a version conflict if you use Server 2012.

Thanks for the suggestion on just creating the VM myself and using the vhd included!
