Is VMware tools present default on windows server 2012?

I recently had a image of Windows Server 2012 Standard created and could see VMware tools running in the system tray. On checking the Add/Remove Programs i could see VMware tools installed. So is VMware tools present in the vanilla build of Windows server 2012?

Windows Server 2012 itself doesn't come with software from VMWare installed. In a virtual environment, running a VM with Server 2012 as OS VMWare tools are installed from the host (if you select the option when it pops up.)

Microsoft is as far as I know not actively shipping VMWare software as they have their own virtualization format HyperV.

HyperV is the Microsoft flavor of Virtual Emulation software. VMWare and Microsoft don't tend to want to get along due to licensing issues. The VMWare tools might be a vendor pre-installed item if you received the server from a third party vendor.
