K1000 Archived devices

Hi Folks,

I've got a quick question that i hope will be quite painless...I've got current devices in my inventory that have recently gotten archived after 30 days of inactivity and are now in my asset list (this process is great so it doesn't use licenses)

I've found that some of my workstations that have been archived i need to be back in my regular device inventory as "active". I have workstations that are possibly only used 2 every 6 months or so. I didn't think anything of this as i assumed once the machine came online the agent would report back and make the device active again. That unfortunately doesn't seem to be the Kace :(

I'm looking for any recommendations on having machines like this stay in inventory or if there is away to un-archive the device in question?

thx, Lou

Archive is permanent. So I would take automatic archive off and manually archive as needed.

  • So i'm assuming i would need to remove Kace agent and re-add to machined if they are in archive in order to have them show as active? - CMLou 6 years ago
    • That's right and as far as I know there is no way to link the two of them. That original KUID is forever archived. - five. 6 years ago
    • I would suggest archiving machines only after you can confirm that they for sure gone forever. For example, if you can confirm they were e-wasted or they've been MIA for more than x amount of time (we assume that if the computer hasn't been inventoried or seen as on in 9-12 months it's gone).

There's also an option to change the archive pending threshold (Control Panel > General Settings > Asset Archive). You can set the threshold from 0 to 7 days. During that threshold, if a machine with the same KUID checks in, it takes it out of its pending archive state.

If you imaged a machine and forgot to have a task that saves the KUID before imaging it, and then have a task to re-apply that KUID, there's a chance that appliance will recognize it as being the same machine (it looks at the MAC address and various other factors). - crodriguez 5 years ago
