[K1000] Where is K1000 Agent come from?

Dear All,

I have some question about K1000 agent if I already setup Replication Share for K1000 after that I deploy K1000 agent to client machine then I would like to know where K1000 agent come from? it will come from K1000 or Replication Share?

Thanks for advise

I have my replication shares based on IP subnets.  So 10.10.10.x has a replication share and all agents that check in from that range get their patches, agent updates, etc from the replication share for that subnet.

  • I do this using Smart Labels BTW. - petelanglois 10 years ago

Since it doesn't have a label at the time of deployment since it doesn't have the agent I would assume it would come from the K1000. After it gets the agent, and checks in it will then have a label. So it would then use the replication share that you assigned for that label.

  • Dear petelanglois and dugullett,

    Thanks for your comment but do you have some log from KACE for confirm K1000 Agent come from Replication or K1000? - manpang 10 years ago
    • With logging turned on you can check Kdeploy.log. It will have something like this below letting you know where the install came from.

      [Fri Sep 27 07:12:54 2013] DLPkgFrmKBOXtoKaceDLdir: KCopyFile from dlURL [smb://KACE_AuthInfo@ce@KBOXREP1/repl2/software/140970/Enterprise.zip.35a480b5abc736add981f7479d26bb06] to [C:\ProgramData\Dell\KACE\downloads\140970\Enterprise.zip] ...
      [Fri Sep 27 07:12:54 2013] DLPkgFrmKBOXtoKaceDLdir: [smb://KACE_AuthInfo@ce@KBOXREP1/repl2/software/140970/Enterprise.zip.35a480b5abc736add981f7479d26bb06] exit 5

      In this case "Enterprise.zip" was downloaded from KBOXREP1.

      However, if these are new provisioned agents they will not have a label letting them know what share to get the agent from. - dugullett 10 years ago

There's a few schools of thought...

Not yet provisioned machine(New Install):

  • If using the Agent Provisioning tool on the K1000 then from the K1000 Client Shares
  • If using GPO then from the location that you set up in your assigned software settings (possibly the K1000).

Already provisioned machine(Agent Updates):

  • If using replication shares, agent update come from the replication share assigned to that machine label
  • If not using replication shares, agent updates come from the K1000

Comments:
  • Hi easterdaymatt,

    Do you have some log on some where? for confirm K1000 agent come from Replication Share.

    Thanks for advise - manpang 10 years ago
    • I haven't seen a specific log that confirms whether an agent comes from the replication share or not, but you can trace patching downloads and verify that at least patches come from the replication share and that can help you figure out if your agent is likely coming from the replication share.

      Check out this link: http://www.kace.com/support/resources/kb/article/how-to-determine-if-the-patching-is-coming-from-the-replication-share-or-the-k1000-appliance

      Also, just a thought, if you have "Failover to the K1000" set on your replication share settings, then the agent/patches/files/etc. can come from either, depending on if the Replication Share has the file that was requested. - easterdaymatt 10 years ago
