K2000 - How should we handle older devices that aren't deleting from the K2000?

What is the appropriate method to clean up the K2000 device list? Should we be manually deleting them periodically?

Our license is for 2,101. We have about 1500 devices on our K1000 which is linked to the K2000.

Our K2000 shows 2,351 devices. A few dozen have never checked in and hundreds have a Last Network Boot going back to 2014.

MIA on the K1000 is set to 90 days. Most desktops have been offline for a few months due to COVID.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Hi,
the fact that the device is still IN USE inside the company, should be the reason for the device to be there listed in the Inventory and using a seat).

This is going by the book, reading KACE SDA License Agreement and EULA.

Now KACE\Quest hasn't bothered to implement a DRM to prevent customers with say.... 1,000 devices, and just buy 100 KACE SDA License seats, and "abuse the model" (Appendix B ,  of the KACE SDA EULA), by deleting device from the KACE SDA inventory to make room for more.(All of this while the device is an active asset in customer's company).

If the asset is destroyed, disposed, stolen, donated or the MAC address changes (the Motherboard or the NIC had to be replaced or RMA), then you are allow to delete the device from Devices › Device Inventory.

The license model is very similar to KACE SMA (K1000),  in that it is a concurrency license in that you can only image up to that many at any 1 time, with the K2  (KACE SDA) though, you "don't care about keeping devices long term", so its easy to think about freeing the license seats.

Basically customers should be advised to have the license nodes match between K1(SMA) and K2(SDA).

Then again, there is no DRM implemented (yet?) solution to make(force?) customers to enforce what the EULA says.

Hi,

The SDA and SMA are not linked in the sense of them updating on the SDA if the status of them changes on the SMA. These will need to be manually removed on the SDA. https://support.quest.com/kace-systems-deployment-appliance/kb/186215/what-happens-if-the-k2000-appliance-licensed-seat-count-is-reached-or-exceeded-

If the systems being listed is on the SMA and this was posted in the wrong appliance chat then there would be a different process to help clean up devices on the inventory list that no longer exist in the company.
