K2000 imaging

I have a K2000 with image load foe Win10 build 1709.

Issue is the unit will not get past the pre task image.  The post task never loads.

The computer can load the image and I am able to verify in the log.  But after the reboot which is suppose to see the OS and begin the post task it never occurs.  System will say inaccessible boot device or similar.  Or the system will reboot itself.

The boot is to PXE and for UEFI.  The computer is set for UEFI w secure boot off.  It is set to same exact boot setting as another unit that is working OK.  Unfortunately I can't re image this working unit since its in production to isolate the issue of hardware.

The image has not been altered since it was last working.  To further diagnose I look at the log and it shows no error.  I have also set the image load to no reboot just so I can see the log process when its done.  NO errors and it indicated all files been transferred OK.

The network is OK since I am able to load the image just fine over pxe.

The unit is brand new.  Dell support which this unit is was unable to assist since they mentioned the boot setting is correct form the computer unit side.

What I need assist on is isolating the issue.  I need to know after the image is loaded on a computer what exactly occurs that will let the image get to post task.  Does it need to communicate back to the K2000 unit again?

What are things I can verify?  Note I can not test image load on a know working unit.

Thanks

  • What partitioning tasks are you using? It sounds like the correct partition is not being set to active. I suggest using the built in '[DISK] BIOS/UEFI Tasks' task group. - cserrins 3 years ago
  • After some research I suspect it may be the RAID 5 VD set up that is off. Thou I did compare this config against a know working unit.
That is the only recent variable. - mikehuang00 3 years ago
  • You might also want to check and update any device drivers for that unit. - jboling 3 years ago
  • Its certainly the RAID card. Attempted to perform a Dell factory recovery off a USB drive. It not cant even see the RAID card at all to recover to.
I ran into this a few times in the past where the card disconnects for odd reason. Firmware does nothing but unit fixes itself. I have to contact Dell support to see if they have further guidance on it.
But this explains why it cant read off the HDD to load the image. - mikehuang00 3 years ago
  • I also had problems deploying a RAID configured machine, after disabling RAID settings the install get trough without problem. - Alibiy 3 years ago

When you the machine does a reboot after the image install, sometimes

it seems to have a problem booting into the uefi partition.

I have had the same issue before , saying that no boot device or something similar.

I believe the machine is trying to boot into the hard disk, which is under

the legacy boot section, when it should actually boot into the "windows boot manager" under UEFI

boot devices.

After the reboot, press F12 for boot opotions, then  choose "Windows boot manager"

from the UEFI section of boot devices.

This should proceed with the POST install tasks.

I remember the way I solved this was by going into bios after the reboot failed, and

deleting the ALL the Boot options in the UEFI boot option.

Then created a new one named the same as the deleted ones.

which was "Windows boot manager".

After a restart it booted to the image and continued with the post install tasks.

I hope I am remembering the options correctly.

Try it.
