KACE 1000 - Configuration Management Database

I'm looking for a Configuration Management Database utility, from the minimal search I see that a lot of the CMDB type applications are going to be doing the same thing that our KACE SMA1000 would be doing, scanning the network and finding connected devices.

Has anyone used KACE as a configuration management type utility?

The definition of a CMDB is exactly what the Asset management portion of KACE is i.e. the ability to create anything as a Configuration Item (CI) and add data to that CI (Data Attribute)

So using Asset Management you can create anything as an Asset (CI) and add any data you need to that Asset (Data Attribute)

Every CI in a CMDB should have a Status value assigned, as every Asset in KACE has.

Every CI in the CMDB should be able to be related to another CI to form a configuration.

In KACE Assets you add in an asset field from where you select the related asset, so for example connected monitor (Asset Monitor) in the device asset.

Where KACE starts to fall short is defining Services in the CMDB from where availability and Service management manage and monitor the services in the SLA.

You can however create Services as Assets and associate them with ciore CI's that deliver the service. That could form the basis of an SLA availability report
