KACE 2000 wim image failing

Hello, I am BRAND NEW to KACE, and I am trying to deploy a wim image using the k2000 system, it is the latest version. We just purchased it. I have the image built and uploaded, I can get it to go thru the motions of the install. But when it reboots into what should be windows with everything on the image, it hangs at starting services and never finishes.

I just did a simple sysprep, these are brand new Dell Optiplex 3010 desktops. I have 85 of them I need to get this image on. It is 16gb in size, because it has the entire adobe cs6 suite on them.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Yes the drivers are all there when I just push win 7 to them, that is flawless, but when I try to push the entire image, that I KNOW all the drivers are in, it fails. I can reimage them all day long, but can't image them with the image I want to. The one that has all the software rolled up in it. That is saved as a wim image. I can't even figure out where to go to create a deployment of my wim image that I uploaded.

Thanks for any other help. I am at a total loss at this point. - maddog3241 10 years ago
  • It was a formatting issue, as soon as I put that in, it all worked. Thank you very much for the help. It was greatly appreciated. - maddog3241 10 years ago

Answer Summary:
I stuck in a format c: prior to pushing the wim file down, and that fixed it.

Are you formatting the drives as a preinstall task?  I ran into this exact same thing when I wasn't, now I always format the drive.

  • Thank you. You hit the nail on the head. I stuck in a format c: prior to pushing the wim file down, and that fixed it. - maddog3241 10 years ago
    • Glad you fixed it, it must be some sort of partitioning mismatch that a format fixes, is all I can think of. - nheyne 10 years ago
      • If it hadn't been for you, I would still be scratching my head, so THANK YOU!!!!! - maddog3241 10 years ago

Is the layout of the partition structure the same on the on machines you are deploying to from the image you captured?  Also from the system you captured the image from make sure that all of the drivers are installed. When you say you did a simple sysprep what options did you use?

If it it were a formatting issue, you would never see windows trying to start.

This sounds more like a missing driver issue. The 3010 is likely not supported in the automatic driver feed yet. Try going to support.dell.com and grab the latest drivers for the new model, copy them to the k2000 drivers samba share and recache the drivers through the web interface. retry deployment.

  • I just offered what I had done to fix this issue for me, certainly it could be a different issue for him. And by the way, the 3010 is available in the driver feed. - nheyne 10 years ago
