Latitude 5300 and 5500 Display issues when docking

I am testing both the Latitude 5300 & 5500. I use the SDA 6.1.251 and the Dell driver feed. Everything imaged good. Machines are stable. When I connect to the D6000 universal dock the display on the external monitors flickers and when I move windows I get trails and crumbs left behind. I have updated every driver including the dock driver.  I've even tried downgrading drivers. Nothing seems to fix the issue. I have tried connecting to a WD19 dock and I get no display at all on the external monitors. When I connect a brand new not imaged computer to the docks everything works great. Does anyone have any idea what I am missing here?

  • Having the exact same issue (down to the video artifcats on the D6000). I would say that the laptops are likely shipping with some driver that is not yet available to the public via their standard means... - krylonnyc 4 years ago
    • I have a support case open with Quest now. We harvested the drivers from a brand new machine and I just reimaged and the Intel driver is still not on there. I just turn on the debug output log and will reimage again. I will let you know if we get this figured out. - keri.saxowsky 4 years ago
      • Oh are you seeing that there is a missing driver or have you identified the device that is missing? - krylonnyc 4 years ago
  • I can see that there is only the basic Microsoft display driver. The laptop works great until you try to dock it. I was not able to install the intel driver. Got a message that the driver was not comatible with the processor. During imaging it says the driver installs but it doesn't. Through troubleshooting with the Quest tech it was decided that my version of Windows10 LTSB 1603 is to old and does not play well with the new processor. We tested by doing a real quick scripted install of Win 10 LTSC. The driver installed perfectly. I am now creating a new image. Not the answer I was hoping for but if it fixes my issue that is what will have to be done. - keri.saxowsky 4 years ago
    • came here to say just this here is dell's response:

This news changes the case dramatically and I can provide a hard answer on why this is the case. LTSB Windows limits the “revision” to Windows to something equal to 1709 (Fall 2017 Creators Update). The chipset on the Latitude 5300 will not support anything older than 1803 (Spring 2018) and preferably 1809 (fall 2018). When you moved to LTSC Windows, this got you to the minimum of 1803. However, be aware that Dell did not certify LTSB or LTSC on any Latitude system. We only certify it on a very limited offering for IOT (Internet of Everything) type devices which use an imbedded OS. We can’t guarantee total usability between our hardware and any Long Term Support OS version from Microsoft. Our drivers are written for compliance with the latest versions of Professional, Enterprise and Home Windows 10.

LTSC is a “locked” OS version that is only supported by Microsoft. The needed drivers would have to be matches to the closest release date of the particular version of LTSC that you have. If Dell’s latest driver updates are used and maintained, it would be a matter of time before you will experience compatibility issues. The changes in our driver updates match security and feature changes as they are released by Microsoft for mainstream Windows. They will eventually out-date the LSTC version you have installed. If you have a “functioning” OS using whatever version you have loaded, I highly recommend locking down whatever drivers you have and to not allow any further updates to be installed. - krylonnyc 4 years ago
      • Interesting. I did not know that. Thank you! I built new images with LTSC 1809 and everything seem to be working fine other then the Dell Point stick which for some reason I can't get out of the driver feed. I have re cached and reimaged this computer so many times in the last 2 days. Not sure why It wont go away. It was easy to remove from the 5300 but will not stop installing on the 5500 - keri.saxowsky 4 years ago
