Software Deployment

It's best not to believe marketing material, especially in the technology field.  Fast Token Ring is one of my favorite examples.

To be clear; there are no nails in any coffin for MSI technology.  It is the best method for deploying applications to a Windows system.  Nothing comes close - period.

Pure marketing spin. Could they have produced something better than Windows Installer? Maybe. Will it become a standard embraced on the level of Windows Installer? They wish.

Windows Installer is a free, built-in technology that is the standard for Windows software installations. It has lots of features, documentation and again: it is free. To get such wide adoption, Microsoft forced it by making Windows Installer a requirement installation technology in order to receive logo certification ( see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa372825(v=vs.85).aspx ). This simply isn't an option for anyone but Microsoft.

I don't doubt InstallAware has developed something worth of attention. I've used their products before and found them to be solid. A decision to implement features that are not native to Windows Installer is really the only way for them to differentiate themselves from the competition. They are not a well known product so what you quote here is them trying to make some noise. It got your attention so I guess they are onto something ;-)
