Multiple RSA's on the same site

Hey,

I have a site with over 1000 machines that I need to image relatively quickly. My WIM image is roughly 17GB.

I have a single RSA unit doing the imaging currently but alone it's not cutting it the speeds are just too slow. What I would like to do is add at least 2 more RSA units to this site and have the machines PXE boot randomly between them. Is there a way to do this? and has anyone had any experience in this before.

My initial thought was to do a DNS round robin. Have the Option 66 on my DHCP point to a DNS name that has multiple IP's on it. Any experience with this?

Thanks!

  • What are the specs of your RSA, and what is your bandwidth situation like? Setting up a DNS round robin is a little too technical of a solution for this issue, in my opinion. I would champion SMal's solution of using offboard shares, if the servers that house the shares have better disk I/O than your RSA. - nheyne 8 years ago

you can also put the wim file on multiple windows shares and call it from them to speed up the process.  This still works with 3.7

  • Ok bear with me. I'm trying to understand exactly whats going on there. You need to create a custom KBE in order to capture your image directly to your share? You can't just copy the image KACE already made to the share? - DanGreenbrier 8 years ago
    • yes you can manually copy it anyplace and remap the drive only in the kbem. I do that to save that work of copying the wim, I let the capture put it where I need it. - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago
      • also lets the lower techs use the capture portion without a lot of training or file access. - SMal.tmcc 8 years ago

you may setup multiple RSA on the same location. And use the built in DHCP to do this. Then the client is booting from the system which answers first.
