Are you starting your tech career off? I did the tech school thing and ran the school as a student and it is definately simpler it the major stuff was controlled remotely by the head office. You have less say but exposed to a lot of different things within the school. Plus you can take classes for free there and hit all their programs if you wanted to.

yes depending on the school and teachers that could be a good or bad thing.

A lot of this decision depends on your long term plan.

If you simply want job skills and are in a hurry, then the tech school may be your best choice. You'll get in, learn a bit and should be able to hit the job market at or above the entry level. Dont count on job placement - most of the criticism of the tech schools is that they really dont help people get jobs.

If your long term goal is to go beyond helpdesk or even Sys Admin, you may be more inclined to go the Community College route. It will take longer to complete the courses, but you are probably going to get more in depth information. Additionally, the courses you take at the community college level are more likely to be transferable, should you ever decide to take your education further.

Regardless of the path, in my own experience, nothing has been more valuable than the hands-on experience of working with the technology. No matter what your educational path is, getting exposed to the technology and working with it is what will ultimately matter.

Just my own two cents, with no college or trade school experience to speak of.
