OS blank during scripted install
We have a volume license for Win 7 SP1 Enterprise, and the volume license key is embedded in the source media. We don't get a copy of the key. When I run through the answer key wizard during the scripted install setup, what should I use for product key? When I choose Windows 7 enterprise, it automatically fills in a product key, so I thought it was reading from the CD. But when I run through the install, it prompts me to select the OS I want to install, but the page is blank. When I click Next, I get the message "Windows could not display the images available for installation." Do I need to choose a different response for the answer file, or will I need to find out what our product key is? BTW, the disk that I used for the source media works for a regular installation.

Manually modified the scripted install and did 2 things - put the MS KMS key into both places where it's listed in the xml file; and created a longer admin password.
We run windows 7 enterprise and use the KMS key to install (33PXH-7Y6KF-2VJC9-XBBR8-HVTHH). Even if the machine does not see the KMS server post image, you still have 30 days to find it.

What I've done for ours, which is Win7 Pro is for Product Key select "Use a KMS Client Setup Key" and under the Install Image I select Windows 7 Professional but if you've uploaded an Enterprise disk it should allow you to select Enterprise from the drop down list
OK, thanks. I set up a new scripted install to try. I left the KMS Client Key setting, and was able to choose Windows 7 Enterprise from the OS list. I'll know in about 15 minutes if it works.
No dice. I've tried:
- leaving the key blank and selecting the OS
- Using the KMS key that fills in automatically and selecting the OS
- Using the KMS key that fills in automatically and using auttodetect for the OS
- Putting in the key provided by our software office and selecting the OS
I know the media and embedded key work because I manually installed onto one of our PCs.
SMal, do you have a link to the Win7 Enterprise DVD from MS? The only thing I can find is the eval version, but that has an embedded trial key and can't be activated with our key to allow use after the trial expires.
OK, didn't get far with the MS license center because I don't have authorization to get licenses. However, after a few more failed attempts, I manually modified the scripted install and did 2 things - put the MS KMS key into both places where it's listed in the xml file; and created a longer admin password.
I don't know which one of these things made it work, but I'll worry about that later.

The KMS key is needed. When you get to creatimg images put that key in your sysprep file. This link lists all current KMS keys.

If you have a license agreement someone in your company should be authorized. You will need your license agreement number and contact them to get authorized to be able to login to download media. - SMal.tmcc 11 years ago
